Electric Motorcycle 150MPH

This is the Mission One EV electric sports bike. The motorcycle was showed off at this week’s Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) conference. Mission Motors says the motorcycle’s top speed is 150 MPH and 100 foot-pounds of torque at any point between 0 and 6,500 RPM. The battery which is a lithium-ion keeps the motorcycle running for 150 miles. The charge time is under 2 Hours at 240V (8 Hours at 120V). It was designed by industrial designer Yves Behar. The motorcycle is totally silent. It will show up for sale in 2010 with a limited run of 50 units each costing $68,995 each.

Silent and fast is great.
I read this thinking that it was a joke, then visited the Mission One site. They’re serious! – Great theory, but I wonder how many motorcyclists will really even entertain the idea of an electric motorcycle – even at a sensible price?
150 MPH sounds impressive, until you recognize that the record for a barstool, on the same Bonneville Flats, is in the hundred mph range. (built for a couple hundred dollars)
