Sling Media, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ: SATS), is demonstrating a version of SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone being developed for the iTunes store at this year’s Macworld. Sling Media will deliver a version of SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone to Apple for certification in Q1.

Sling Media is also unveiling a prototype of the new SlingPlayer for Mac HD which allows Slingbox PRO-HD users to stream HD content to their Mac desktop or laptop computer. The new SlingPlayer for Mac HD is a web-based version of the SlingPlayer software that will be accessible from Sling.com

The new 17″ MacBook Pro’s non-removable battery will cost $179. The swap will take along time says apple spokesperson.

From a spokesperson at Apple:

It will likely be years before you need to replace it (1000 cycles at 200 cycles/year = 5 years). You can have the battery replaced at any Apple Store or Apple-authorized reseller. The replacement battery is priced at $179, which includes installation of the new battery and environmentally-responsible disposal of the old battery.

The non-removable MacBook Air battery costs $129 to replace, though the lifespan is not promised to be as great.

The battery in the new 17-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to 8 hours on a single charge and can be recharged up to 1000 times2 — compared with only 200 to 300 times for typical notebooks.

Apple confirmed the eagerly anticipated unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro. They’re calling it the world’s thinnest and lightest 17-inch laptop. It features a 1920 x 1200 LED backlit display, with a 700:1 contrast ratio, wider color gamut and a glare resistant $50 matte option. Most of the specs are otherwise quite similar to the 15-inch MacBook Pro, but unfortunately Apple went with a non-removable battery, claiming that the lack of removable mechanism allowed for more battery. They say it will last up to 8 hours on the lithium polymer juice on integrated graphics, 7 hours on discrete, and it’s rated at 1000 recharges. There will also be an exchange program, like with the iPod. The base model hits at $2799, spec breakdown.

Guy yells at his jbod (just a bunch of drives) and his latency goes up because of the vibration caused. The data center is already loud and this guy isn’t much louder, but it does make a difference. Funny illustrations and all it’s pretty funny to watch.

Over the past 12 months, the IE browser gave up 7.9 points of market share, while the Firefox browser gained 4.5 points and Safari nearly 2.4 points. The new Chrome browser put out by google, released in September of this year, is an entirely new player and Opera was able to add 0.7 points to its usage share and remains just above Netscape, which is still listed at a slowly declining 0.57%.
