Fujitsu Ltd and Fujitsu Frontech Ltd are scheduled to conduct a test of a mobile information terminal called the Flepia. The Flepia is a color electronic paper reader with SoftBank Telecom Corp and Mainichi Newspapers Co Ltd.

The Flepia terminals will be available at “Termina Kinshicho Fujiya Restaurant”. Customer’s can pick up the wireless terminals equipped with a color electronic paper module on the tables and browse newspapers and advertisements sent to the terminals. The four companies will see whether the electronic paper terminal will be accepted as a device for reading newspapers and other content. They are evaluating the terminals to see whether the service can promote sales and boost customer satisfaction.

Customers waiting for their orders can read the newspapers by operating the terminal, they will also be viewing the advertisements. The Flepia will automatically switch to a different screen every several minutes when the terminal is not being operated. Kinda like a portable bulletin board.

The Flepia electronic paper terminals use electricity only when they switch the displayed information.
