The new 17″ MacBook Pro’s non-removable battery will cost $179. The swap will take along time says apple spokesperson.

From a spokesperson at Apple:

It will likely be years before you need to replace it (1000 cycles at 200 cycles/year = 5 years). You can have the battery replaced at any Apple Store or Apple-authorized reseller. The replacement battery is priced at $179, which includes installation of the new battery and environmentally-responsible disposal of the old battery.

The non-removable MacBook Air battery costs $129 to replace, though the lifespan is not promised to be as great.

From Apple’s website:

The longest-lasting Mac notebook battery ever.

The battery in the new 17-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to 8 hours on a single charge and can be recharged up to 1000 times2 — compared with only 200 to 300 times for typical notebooks.

Intel Core i7 is a family of three Intel desktop x86-64 processors, the first processors released using the Intel Nehalem microarchitecture and the successor to the Intel Core 2 family. All three models are quad-core processors. Was officially launched on November 17, 2008.

# The new LGA 1366 socket is incompatible with earlier processors.
# On-die memory controller: the memory is directly connected to the processor.
# Support for DDR3 only.
# No ECC support.
# 45nm process technology.
# 731M transistors.
“Turbo Boost” technology allows all active cores to intelligently clock themselves up in steps of 133 MHz over the design clock rate as long as the CPU’s predetermined limit for short periods when needed.

Re-implemented Hyper-threading. Each of the four cores can process up to two threads simultaneously, so the processor appears to the OS as eight CPUs.

Cons:
The new LGA 1366 socket is incompatible with earlier processors.
The Core i7 does not support error-correcting memory.
