Usage of Windows 7 had finally surpassed that of Windows Vista. 14.46 percent of Internet users are using Windows 7 and 14.34 percent are using Windows Vista. Windows XP, is at 61.9 percent which is amazing because Windows XP is nearly 9 years old.

Apple’s Mac OS X has a respectable 5 percent for the desktop version of the OS.

Really small requirements for Microsoft’s newest operating system. Will run on Netbooks with no problem. This guy was able to get Windows 7 to run on a PII-266 with 96 megs of ram. Check it out here:

• 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
• 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
• 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
• DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Additional requirements to use certain features:

• Internet access (fees may apply)
• Depending on resolution, video playback may require additional memory and advanced graphics hardware
• For some Windows Media Center functionality a TV tuner and additional hardware may be required
• Windows Touch and Tablet PCs require specific hardware
• HomeGroup requires a network and PCs running Windows 7
• DVD/CD authoring requires a compatible optical drive
• BitLocker requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2
• BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive

Windows 7 Release Candidate is Available Today. Windows 7 expires on June 1st, 2010, but it does have one caveat, as of March 1st, 2010 it shuts down every 2 hours to remind you that it is going to stop working on June 1st.

Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

The Windows 7 release candidate will be available tomorrow. The release candidate won’t expire for a year, so you’ll get full use of it for 1 year. It willl be available for download through July which gives you a long windows to get Windows 7 essentially free for a year. Via [ZDNet]

If you are thinking about getting the new Windows 7 that will be out by the end of the year you might want to know the minimum requirements:

• 1 GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
• 1 GB of RAM (32-bit); 2 GB of RAM (64-bit)
• 16 GB of available disk space (32-bit); 20 GB of available disk space (64-bit)
• DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Seems kinda low to me. I would recommend a 2 gig processor at least, and 2 gigs of ram. Thats why they call it minimum requirements.
